I worked wit an elite dancer, I assumed, wrongly, that she would represent her performance would be kinaesthetic and possibly visual. When I modelled her I learned that this was not the case. She had no kinaesthetic, visual, or auditory dialogue representations of her performance at all. Puzzled, I challenged this and she nervously confessed that each move had an internal abstract noise which she could play back to reproduce movement. I would now suspect that there was a vestibular representation as well although I was not able to elicit this at the time. Understand your own representational systems and you can take control of them and adjust them to suit your own performance.

All representations are subject to variation I terms of sub-modalities:- colour to black and white for example. Adjusting personal representations has a direct impact on performance, as well as beliefs about performance.

As they represent the poor performance to themselves they use this as a trigger to elicit a representation of a positive performance instead. Once installed this pattern becomes automatic very quickly – with the original trigger for poor performance now the trigger for a representation and now an expectation of excellent performance. In the same way which specific aspects of performance can be switched from positive to negative – other contexts locations or even competitors can be easily reprogrammed to be triggers for excellence.

Values elicitation

Every sports man or woman has a set of values and beliefs which operate at an unconscious level driving choices, actions and motivation. NLP Coaches are able to elicit a persons values hierarchy and enable them to reconsider both values and sporting performance in the light of sporting goals and aspirations. One value that can be surprisingly absent is that of practice! Bring this to the attention of the client and the coach is able to lead them to a new understanding of their relationship with their sport.

Timeline emotional release allows the athlete to let go of unhelpful emotional issues which continue to impinge on their performance whether they are conscious of it or not. This is an interesting position for the coach to find themselves as they will calibrate that the intervention would have a big impact on training and performance but the athlete may perceive this as a natural part of their make up. As such this pattern would usually be most effective once a coaching relationship is established and coach and athlete have good rapport.

Failure into Feedback (Reframing)

Teaching this pattern may not be needed with some athletes who use negative feedback as a key motivator but if failure is an issue during performance or training and preparation the skill of reframing failure in to feedback or even feed-forward is extremely useful in giving the athlete freedom to learn quickly from their performance.

Motivation strategies Meta Programmes

Every one f us has what are called meta-programmes operating at an unconscious level. One of the key ones for most people not just athletes is their motivation strategy. Motivation is either towards a goal, away from a negative or somewhere in between. If the strategy in a context is away-from then as the athlete moves away from then the level of motivation decreases. This is something which coaches and athletes alike need tobe aware of.

Internal dialogue

John Grinder, co-creator of NLP has called Internal Dialogue one of the biggest obstacles to personal change and development. Using the Techniques of Frank Farrally is most useful in this area. If someone has a very supportive internal dialogue then the coach and athlete can utilise it to support performance further. If it is negative then it needs dealing with so that if not supportive it is at least quieter, less shrill – less demanding. Developing a healthy relationship with ones unconscious is one of the most important aspects to personal development and achieving success. This is something which some have a naturally good relationship with their unconscious minds for others this is something which they have to establish and develop. An NLP coach will do this with the client and work with them to develop a better relationship with the unconscious mind. Once this is established then using the awareness developed in strategy elicitation the unconscious mind can be tasked with preparation, developing and producing desired states and performances over time. This process can be used to re-direct automatic responses for example from anger to energy – from vulnerability to curiosity. You go down to the store to find one that appeals to your senses. You may be an outdoors person so you will get a nature looking puzzle or you may like sports, business, airplanes or even animal puzzles. Whatever the case, you will find the photo you want to build, where you want to build it; more importantly, you will know it will take patience to build your mind-blowing puzzle one piece at a time. Well, this analogy applies with every goal you want to reach with your sport and life.

The First Step is Crucial for Success:

What is the first step to being triumphant towards the end results with your small, medium, large or ultimate victory goal? This amazing step is actually – your real life imaginary sport puzzle/s. An exciting and enjoyable process because what ever you can imagine you will and can achieve. Just like building any puzzle of course, you need to know what the “picture” looks like. By knowing what your end result (picture) looks like will help you determine the course to laying out the pieces to put together your sport goal/s or sport puzzle, as I like to say.

Do you know the most exciting part of having your sport puzzle/s in place? By consistent action, and faith towards your sport puzzle and plan, you will begin the process to manifest your every desire with your sport. I do emphasize faith in the process because no journey to excellence is a smooth ride. You have to trust the process once it is started. There will be great times and challenging times, but by keeping the faith and accepting everything that comes your way is all part of the process concerning your vision, you will not only make the ride smoother, but also give yourself the best chance to win or reach your goals.

The Second Step that is Crucial for Success:

Define a rich description of your victory goals or sport puzzle (picture) as already accomplished. This is just one example: I just won and Olympic gold medal or getting a personal best time or getting in the shape you want to be in – what ever the case; what you see, hear, smell and feel after reaching your imaginary goals, is critical for your goals to become a reality.

Start with the most important goal you want to work on first. Then put in jam-packed colorful detail in writing- that means what you see, hear, smell, and feel, both internally and externally. Once you’ve got a written description of this image, you will need to commit an agreed amount of time to imagine this scene every day for 30 days like it has already happen. The more often you perform the mental exercise, the faster your desire will come to you. This is just how manifesting what you can imagine works.

So, you will need to answer these all important questions: You will want to write down what you see, hear, feel, and smell with what you have created in your mind (picture puzzle) with your rich description in the real world and picture in your mind. When you have written your description down, you will need to organize a time to read it out loud to yourself once or twice a day until you remember it. You can tweak it if need be until you are satisfied with it. The KEY here is writing it down as if you already feel you have this desire. It is like writing out a premonition you just envisioned. With practicing your description, you will be able to create this feeling at will.

The Third Step that is Crucial for Success:

This next process is absolutely necessary! By doing this exercise will actually increase your desire and belief system, in addition to manifesting your Victory Goals you desire to go after.

1) Schedule a time and imagine what you wrote down every day for 30 days. This is absolutely critical in creating what you envisioned.

2) Set aside at least one session per day, two is better, 3 is like missile fuel! You will create a belief and desire like no other. This only takes 2-10 minutes.

3) Practice the same time each day since this creates a habit, which makes it easier to follow through on a regular basis.

The Sport Of Airsoft vs. The Sport Of Paintball Part II

In the previous article of The Sport of Airsoft vs. The Sport of Paintball, we established one of the major differences between the two sports is the actual guns, and not necessarily the cost. I would now like to turn to the conditions of each sport and what they entail. I have recently seen more and more professional Paintball games being played and broadcasted on Television. I watch the teams compete and the strategy they import to the playing fields. With no offense towards these Paintball teams, I have to say I don’t see much strategy used, especially in “SpeedBall.” It always seems to come down to the same thing and same strategy for every team. Get your sprinters to get in close, making sure the first line is spread out while the back field players shoot as much and as fast as they can. Now, I know that most people think that this is strategy, but in my experience any Joe Blow who can move their index and middle finger fast enough can get into the sport. When I first started participating in Paintball games I had a rental gun that wasn’t so accurate or effective from a long distance. I remember that a guy on the other team had a great gun with a double tap trigger and stood in the very back of the field shooting tons of paint towards our team. I understand that he was using the only strategy that he knew to work, but to me that contradicts the game. In that specific case there is no sport involved, it has everything to do with equipment. I could only imagine if they had five other people standing back there doing the same thing. How much fun would that be? So is strategy involved in Airsoft, or a better strategy that involves more than just equipment? I want to make a note that better equipment will definitely optimize your sport experience, but I don’t think a sport should solely rely on having the best equipment. It takes the fun out of the game and sooner or later it takes the strategy out as well. Personally, I would much rather be holding a sniper rifle with a long range scope, backing my team up from an elevated level several hundred feet behind them and making sure that their every move is safe. Or posted on the flank while skirmishing through a thick set of woods holding an M16 fully-automatic machine gun, backed up with a 9milimeeter strapped to my ankle incase I needed it for some close combat. Gaming can take place in an open field with no barriers or a 100-yard field full of trees, brush, and bushes. This all happens while talking on the radio, knowing every location my team is in. This makes for some extreme planning and strategy, not to mention some extreme fun. So what sport is emerging and what sport is becoming the ‘equipment war’ rather than a sport? When it comes to The Sport of Airsoft versus The Sport of Paintball I would have to choose Airsoft, and not just because of the costs or the clean up, but simply because of the realistic features and adventures involved. From the guns to the gaming it makes more sense to have fun in a realistic game of warfare without the death part. In any case, when it comes to sport, I would have to say crawling on the ground under brush or posting yourself 35 feet in the air decked out in camouflage sniping people from an elevated position is more sport than standing in the back of a field loading and shooting, loading and shooting as fast as you can. The Sport Of Airsoft vs. The Sport Of Paintball Part I

As the Sport of Airsoft grows in popularity today, many enthusiasts of both the Sport of Airsoft and the Sport of Paintball have debated over the differences and similarities, in the comparisons of both sports. Questions eventually come to the following: Which sport is better? What sport is more cost effective? What is the difference between Airsoft guns and Paintball guns? Finally, which sport is geared toward a larger demographic of people? I will briefly examine both sides of the Airsoft and Paintball argument and hopefully come to an opinion on which sport is emerging and which sport is fading out. The initial argument between the Sport of Airsoft and the Sport of Paintball has been the cost differences between each sport. However, if you take a closer look at the costs for each sport you will find that both sports have an initial investment. For both sports, if you want to get completely decked out in every form of equipment available you are looking to spend up into the hundreds of dollars and sometimes into the thousands. There are variations in the pricing, but let’s say you use tons of ammo in Airsoft and not so much (which I think is unlikely) in Paintball then you will spend more on ammo for Airsoft (again this is very unlikely). This money can be spent over a period of time if you are not seriously trying to compete in the sports. Most people continue to talk about the costs and how one sport is cheaper than the other but it depends on what you want and what you are looking for in each sport that will actually determine what you will spend. This includes everything from the gun, equipment and ammo, to the upgrades. In other words, either sport can be relatively cheap or relatively expensive, it all depends on you. So if the money is not so important (well it’s important to most, and trust me I am all about getting the best for my money) what are the differences between the sports that one can draw a clear contrast about? What makes one sport different from the other? One of the major differences are the guns for each sport. All Paintball guns, also known as “Markers,” have a similar style and look, only varying in specifications rather than in styles. There’s not much more to the variations except the quality and effectiveness of the Paintball guns. There is hardly any diversity or character when it comes to each gun simply because they are made to specifications. Airsoft guns have 1:1 scale replicas. This means they actually look like the real thing, so much so that all the guns come with a federally mandated orange tip. It is interesting to note that these guns also come with metal components making even the weight of the replica guns very similar to the actual gun. Plus, you can find many of the guns that you would have some interest in using, like an M16, Sniper Rifle, or an AK47. Some would say this is scary, but others (including the Airsoft enthusiast) would consider this a great way to own an arsenal that is not lethal, nor illegal for that matter. I know the reader might be saying that as far as cost’s are concerned, “one cannot draw a conclusion on which sport out does the other,” but as we have looked into the matter deeper we have found that realistic attributes can make a big difference in what you would want to participate in. In fact it makes all the difference for me! In this part one of The Sport of Airsoft vs. The Sport of Paintball we have concluded that that money or cost has no bearing on whether the Sport of Airsoft is better than the Sport of Paintball. They don’t even hurt when you get them and unlike the thorn vine tattoo’s, not everyone including the toll booth collector can get them. They’re the Prep Sport Badges. We’ve got new ones coming out all the time but let’s take a look at what’s in the system now exclusively for you….the players. Basically, the Badges are there to put your own little mark on the site. If you’re a player, you’ll notice the spot right below your Player Profile video area. If you click on that space, a new page will pop up with different animated graphic rectangles…or badges. There are different badges specific to each sport which we’ll get into in a bit. They’re all animated and they’re meant to show a player’s attitude and sense of style. It’s like an online version of your AJ 4’s in black/cement. Some badges are based on certain achievements. Let’s start with the first one on the system. Exclusive Badges The Pioneer Badge. This is one of our exclusive badges for the first few people to sign for an account from a school, a league, or a team. Once those spots are filled up, the Pioneer Badge is gone. It’s a combination of a covered wagon and dragster and it shows that we will mish mash almost anything to make a point. There aren’t too many spots for the Pioneer Badge but many others are available. Let’s take a look. High School Football Badges As we mentioned above, the badges are by sport. For example, football has a whole slew of them and it’s increasing all the time. You’ll find some badges that are specific to a given position. For example, Shotgun is probably more of a quarterback badge while Fear and Loathing fits better with a linebacker unless you’re the running back or quarterback and you’re staring into those dark…angry eyes in the shadows of his helmet. We guess that goes both ways. You’ll find lots of badges each with it’s own design and animation. There’s Ice Pack or Mud Ball. Smelling Salts is one of our favorites. Again, these are specific to high school football. High School Basketball Badges There’s also a list of badges for high school basketball. Let’s hope that Posterize is you doing it and not it being done to you. Dirty South is one of our favorites because there’s nothing that says basketball like a mouth full of metal. Laimbeer is there for those old enough to remember how he was laying down fouls like he was swinging a side of beef. Go YouTube the bad boys of Detroit. Yea, he’s got your pivot foot. If we had to pick our 3rd favorite, it would go out to Thieve’s Den…a tribute to those players on the court who can practically read your mind and steal the pass. You can see it in their eyes…just waiting for you to try that pass. Props go out to the quickness. High School Baseball Badges Let’s not forget high school baseball or softball. You can almost smell the fresh cut grass in the spring air. It’s coming. The ritual is there and we have badges to capture this feeling of new prep sport baseball/softball action. Some badges are geared towards pitching such as Burn Notice or Cannon. Or course some are geared towards batting because let’s face it…that’s what we live for…that crack or ding of the bat like a piece of captured lightning on the field. Love it.
